Spelpaus.se is Sweden's national self-exclusion register, run by Spelinspektionen, the Swedish Gambling Authority. With one registration you exclude yourself from all gambling that has to be licensed in Sweden — online casinos and sportsbooks such as Betsson, gambling agents, racecourses and slot machines in restaurants. This article explains how it works, which periods you can choose, what happens to your accounts and why an exclusion cannot be cancelled early.

What Spelpaus covers
A Spelpaus exclusion applies to all gambling that has to be registered by companies licensed to run real-money gambling in Sweden. That includes online casinos and sportsbooks, gambling agents, racecourses and gaming machines such as those found in restaurants and bars.
It does not cover sites without a Swedish licence. Those sites are not allowed to target Swedish players, and you have no protection if you use them.
Spelpaus exclusion periods
When you register, you choose how long the exclusion lasts. The options on spelpaus.se are:
- 10 days A short break
- 1 month One full month
- 3 months A season
- 6 months Half a year
- Until further notice At least 12 months
Why a Spelpaus exclusion cannot be cancelled early
Spelpaus states clearly that a self-exclusion cannot be cancelled or ended before the date you choose. That is deliberate: the register exists for moments when the urge to gamble is stronger than a decision made in calmer times.
If you choose until further notice, the exclusion lasts at least 12 months; after that it continues until you actively end it on spelpaus.se.
How to register with Spelpaus
Registration is done online with a digital ID. Spelpaus accepts Mobile BankID, BankID, Freja eID+ and foreign eIDs, and there is a paper-based alternative for people without e-identification or for trustees.

What happens to your Betsson account
Licensed operators must check Spelpaus. While you are excluded, Betsson and every other Swedish-licensed operator must stop you from gambling and from receiving direct marketing.
